Gosh, that’s a big one!

We were quite surprised to see a big cruise liner sail past the apartment today. There have been quite a few of them lately, but this time we managed to have the camera at the ready.

The pictures we’ve taken of it don’t really do it justice, as it looked much, much bigger in real life.

It certainly is a big ship. It looks bigger than the one we saw being towed through the open Tower Bridge last year. I wonder if this one would fit through!!!

Mums 60th Birthday

Today was the day, and we all rose to a lovely hot morning.

After mum and dad returned from Church, mum started opening her (many, many) presents. Once that was done we picked up nan, who also turned up with a few more gifts to keep things going.

Once all that was over, we set off to ‘pick Sue up’, which is family speak for ‘going to Sue’s house for a surprise buffet’. For some reason our family can’t go to the loo without it being a thinly veiled revelation.

As the day became hotter, we arrived at Sues and then tucked in to a lovely buffet lunch, along with mum of course opening a few more pressies. Sue had decorated her flat nicely.

Lunch was over and we presented mum with her birthday cake. Sue and I nearly set the house on fire twice in the process with a highly dangerous musical candle. I ended up carrying it into the room rather than setting up the cake as an explosive device.

Our tummies full, Dad, Sue, Kel and I decided to go out for a walk in Beacon Park, just over the road from  Sues. We were all surprised by how nice it was as none of us had been there for years. That, plus the 27c heat meant it was a really nice walk.

Tonight we all went for a meal at The Boars Head. Very nice indeed.

It was all intended as a bit of a surprise for mum, and we think we managed it really. Quite amazing since most of us dropped a clanger right in front of her at many points over the weekend.

She was probably too busy thinking about a nice little paper cutter she’d seen on QVC rather than listening to us though

Lunch in the country

After a fair amount of faffing around in the morning, we eventually got quite bored and decided that seeing as it was nice weather we’d all take a drive out into the country. (Helped along by dads revelation that I wasn’t insured on mums car, which limited our options slightly).

We ended up going to the Dovedale area. The sun came out and we had a lovely pub lunch. The village we ate in was gorgeous, very picture postcard.

Spring has sprung (with knobs on)

After what seems like a bloody eternity, we’ve finally got some spring weather. In fact it’s more like early summer. Temperatures should normally be around 16c at this time of year, but the last few days it’s been touching 24c. Absolutely lovely.

As expected the local nature has loved it, and the grass and trees are all ‘greening up’ and the flowers are starting to pop up.

I’ve been out and taken a couple of pictures of the apartment again today, they probably don’t look that different to the ones I took when we first moved in, but it was a good excuse to faff around in the sunshine.
